Editorial Policy: How Our Guides Are Researched and Corrected

Our guides explain how rules and standards affect law firm websites in Australia. This policy sets out how they are researched, how sources are chosen and labelled, and how mistakes are corrected.

Purpose of the guides

The guides help partners, practice managers and marketing staff make decisions about a website. They are general information, not legal advice. Each guide that discusses legal rules carries a note saying so and recommends confirming obligations with the relevant regulator or Law Society.

Sources

  • We rely on primary sources wherever they exist: legislation, regulators, courts and tribunals, professional bodies and standards organisations.
  • Where we use secondary sources, such as law firm articles or journal reports, the source list labels them.
  • Price figures come from commercial publishers, and each is labelled as a commercial publisher with a note on what kind of business it is.
  • Quotations are verbatim and linked. Where a rule turns on particular words, we quote those words rather than paraphrasing.
  • We do not invent statistics, examples, clients, reviews or case studies.

Labels used in source lists

LabelMeaning
LegislationAn Act, regulation or rules made under legislation
RegulatorA government regulator or commission
GovernmentA government department or agency
Professional bodyA Law Society, bar association or similar body
Standards bodyAn organisation that publishes technical standards, such as the W3C
Platform documentationOfficial documentation from a platform such as Google
Secondary sourceCommentary or reporting by a third party, such as a law firm or journal
Commercial publisherA business that sells or brokers the service being discussed

Dates

Each guide shows the date it was last checked. Sources show their own publication or update date where one is available. When a law or rule changes, affected guides are reviewed and their checked date updated.

Scope and limits

Australia's legal profession is regulated state by state, and rules differ. Where a guide covers only some states, it says so. We do not attempt to summarise every jurisdiction where the sources are unclear.

Corrections

If you find an error, contact us. We check the report against the source, correct the guide if needed and update its checked date. Significant corrections are noted at the end of the guide.

Commercial interests

The owner of Lawquendrix has commercial interests in web design services, and Lawquendrix sells website design to law firms. Guides may mention our services where they are relevant. They do not recommend specific third-party products in exchange for payment, and we do not accept payment for coverage.

Authorship

Guides are edited by Sophia Turner, the pen name used by the site's editor. Her profile is on the author page.
